I’m not sure if this game has a name or not. Seems simple, but it can be frustrating.

As you can see in the video below, the platter had oysters, clams, shrimp, crawdads, crab legs, corn, potatoes, and sausage.  These are staples in what they call “low-country” food.

The Crab Shack is huge. They say on their website that they can accommodate several hundred people. There were less than 20 people in the restaurant the first day we went for lunch. I’m assuming that’s because we having a late lunch in the off-season. Locals tell stories of seeing the place completely packed in the peak of tourist season.

I love how the tables have a big hole in the middle with a trashcan underneath.  It just seems more efficient that way!

Outside the restaurant in a big pool, they have a bunch of alligators.  It was a strange feeling looking down at the alligators thinking of how good they would taste knowing they were looking up at me thinking the same thing.

Awesome music. During all my years of bar hopping, I’ve never heard a mix of music like that at Huc-A-Poo’s. The music was never too loud, just chilled in the background. Talk about diverse; it would fade from Sweet Home Alabama to Buffalo Soldier. It was like they had my iTunes playlist on shuffle. One can tell simply by looking at the walls and ceiling that music is a big deal in this place.

Eric, the owner of Huc-A-Poo’s is one of the most likeable guys I’ve ever met. He looks the part of a Tybee native with his long hair wrapped in a doo-rag. Except for the long hair, he reminds me of my dear departed friend Heath Greene.

Eric is a natural-born storyteller. I wish I had thought to video some of the stories he told us. I should have at least been feverishly taking notes, but who does that in a bar?  The best story that I remember ended with the line, “Nobody wins at lesbian jousting.”

We became regulars at this place during our weeklong stay on Tybee Island. As soon as I get a chance to visit Tybee again, I’ll definitely be dropping by Huc-A-Poo’s.
